Send in your Service.config File

Posted in AtomSite by JarrettV on 8/31/2009 7:31:00 PM - CST

The service.config file is where AtomSite stores all the configuration information about your workspaces, collections, pages, widgets, and plugins.  I've posted some examples on the Service.config documentation page.  These examples should show you the power of what is possible with AtomSite.  We are working to expose all of this potential in the AtomSite Manager.

To help guide other users, please post your Service.config example so we can add it to the site.

You can send them to me (Jarrett):

So far we have:

  1. AtomSite.net Service.config
  2. JVance.com Service.config
  3. PoshCode.org Service.config

I would like to know a lot more about this Service.config file and what all it can take, etc...to customize a site. I would also like to see the Service.config ina more descriptive overview, with comments and examples.
I am working on my own right now, but it's slow going not having very much documentation for it and not knowing what all my capabilities are for it.

Hey terry, we plan to have most of the settings configurable from the manager page. You should only need to edit it manually for complex scenarios.

Thanks JarrettV! I've gotten the hang of most of the Manager (though it is a little limited with Users right now), and how it all works together so you don't have to modify the config file itself. Though, I couldn't find a place to make a custom Navigation off the pages I created...like a 'Show In Nave' option when creating pages. I am guessing that is still something I will have to actually modify the config file.
The second thing i will eventually need to know more about is creating multiple sites (workspaces) and having their own individual custom navigation systems. It seems to me that the "MenuCustomWidget" just needs to be moved into each workspace for each site. I really like this code too...just so you know. Very clean and easy to read and follow.
