About
You can manage the widgets at any scope. If you include a widget into an area at the workspace scope, it'll show in every collection within that workspace. So you can customize your site, workspace, or an individual collection to your liking.
Widgets are inherited from the upper level scopes. For example, when viewing a collection, you will see all widgets inherited from the workspace and entire site scopes. Inherited widgets cannot be modified at down level scopes.
Please note that if you include a widget in a master page, it'll show in every child page. Pages and widgets are built to target certain areas. The following graphic will clue you into which scopes each page and widget works best at. If the scope is faded out, it is not a supported scope.
Also, when including a widget, you'll see a hint (the star) to help you understand the widget is recommended for the selected area.
Configuration
Some widgets support custom configuration (the wrench) and when you configure the widget you'll get a dialog where you can make your configuration changes.
If you add a widget, it may require some configuration from you. These widgets are in an invalid state and show a red box with exclamation point. If you have widgets in an invalid state, your website may be broken. Please configure the widget to resolve the invalid state.
